Our story

Over the course of its history, Academia, which was founded in Basel in 2005, has grown from a Basel-based language school to one of the largest private education providers in Switzerland. Every year, we are supporting around 12,000 students in over 20 locations as they strive to achieve their educational goals.

Anniversary in the Swiss capital: Academia Languages and Matura have been operating in Bern for 10 years.

2.2023
Dissentis Abbey and Academia Group have joined forces to expand their school offerings. Starting in August 2024, the Swiss Boarding Schools Disentis & Zurich will be offering an English-language secondary education program at both locations, Disentis and Winterthur/Zurich.

The Academia Group Corporate Centre moves to the White Plaza Basel.

Lynn Strebel hands over the management of Academia Education AG to Evelyne Sydler.

Academia Integration opens a new location at Effingerstrasse 53 in Bern.

Academia Bilingual School Basel receives the “Eco-Schools” sustainability award for the second time.

8.2023
Opening of the “Kubus” on the WIN4 site in Winterthur. Academia Bilingual School, Academia International School and Academia Integration start school operations on four of the six floors.

Academia Primar & Sek receives the official transfer agreement to the public secondary schools from the Canton of Basel-Land.

2019

10/2019
The Academia Bilingual School outgrows the space available in the Schifferhaus in Basel-Kleinhüningen. At the end of October, Years 7 and 8 move to the second floor of Steinentorstrasse.

08/2019
The Terra Nova Bilingual School in Küsnacht (ZH) expands to include secondary school teaching. Intake for Years 7 and 8 begin after the summer holidays.

Academia International School continues to grow: the English-speaking college opens its doors directly alongside the main railway station in Zurich and benefits from the expertise of its sister school in Basel, which has successfully prepared over 300 students for international qualifications (IGCSEs and A Levels) since 2010.

01/2019
Change in management at the Academia Group: Dr Peter Petrin and Andreas Földényi become co-owners of Academia. Thomas Marti, the founder of Academia hands over the management to them. Dr Peter Petrin had served as president of HWZ (University of Applied Sciences in Business Administration Zurich). Andreas Földényi was owner and CEO of allegra! Sprachen & Integration and long-term human capital management consultant.
